I'm sure most know that wikipedia is pretty nearly the canonical online encyclopedia, @ least amongst those non-uptight enough to deal w/ a user edited encyclopedia, and such seem to be the majority.  I've not (@ least recently) heard any mention of any other online free encyclopedia on noninternet media.  Let me know if you have.  Wikipedia has claimed (or nearly claimed) to be the closest thing  to The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy on Earth @ this time.  A claim I basically support, especially since the fictional "repository of all knowledge and wisdom", was noted for ridiculous editorial policies, and I feel that wikipedia has definitely followed suit.
