Specifically syntax.  Wikipedia has the following  to say on grammar and syntax:

Grammar is the field of linguistics that covers the conventions governing the use of any given natural language. It includes morphology and syntax, often complemented by phonetics, phonology, semantics, and pragmatics.

In linguistics, syntax (from Ancient Greek συν- syn-, "together", and τάξις táxis, "arrangement") is the study of the principles and rules for constructing sentences in natural languages

What follows is what I have to say on the subject:

When I went to Trend College (Around 1990), a teacher there comnfirmed what I'd already suspected, namely that making sure that setences were not ended in prepositions has become mere acedemic formalism; however; tho lacking much in the way of formal education, I personally enjoy the mental gymnastics involved in the attempt, and so such is my practice.  So; deal with it; ok?!
